This is an original rolled oats canister label — a circa 1920s heavily gilded stone lithograph for Marvel Brand, from the factory stock of Webster Grocer Co., Danville, Illinois. It has never been used. Never wrapped a canister. It is New Old Stock in excellent mint condition.

The label is unlike anything else in a can label collection. At 18.25 inches wide, it was designed to wrap a large oats canister completely — and it carries a double image: both sides of the label depict the same scene, a waterfall flowing out of a wooded mountain landscape surrounded by pine trees and greenery, rendered in the rich tonal range of stone lithography at its finest. The gold gilding throughout catches the light and gives the whole label a warmth that flat printing cannot achieve. Marvel Brand Rolled Oats. Someone chose a mountain waterfall to sell oatmeal, and the choice was magnificent.

The label fits snugly over a modern large Quaker Oats canister — an unusual and entirely charming display option. Or frame it flat: at 18.25 inches wide it requires a custom or panoramic frame, and at that scale the landscape fills the space with the authority of a proper piece of wall art. Two available.
